What Determines the Price

These are all specified by measurable numbers rather than by name, and that is what makes quotes comparable:

Mats — size, thickness and backing type. Note that rubber-backed mats can permanently stain a vinyl floor, so ask about the backing rather than only the top surface
Artificial grass — pile height and density are the main drivers, then area. A taller, denser turf looks better and costs more
Safety nets — net type first (bird netting and child safety netting are different products at different prices), then mesh size, twine, and crucially the floor height and access
Tarpaulin — GSM above all, then UV treatment, size and eyelet count
Installation — usually the larger part of a netting job, and it scales with height and access difficulty rather than with area
Quantity — matting and tarpaulin price materially better in bulk, which is why societies often buy netting for a whole stack together

For a firm quote, send the measurements plus a photo. On balcony work the photo matters as much as the size — it shows us the railing, the fixing points and the access, which is what actually determines the price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do entrance mats really make a difference?

More than most people expect. Grit and water tracked in from outside is what abrades a floor - foot traffic alone does comparatively little damage. A properly sized entrance mat traps both before they reach the main floor, which is why it is the cheapest way to extend the life of an expensive floor. The key is length: a token mat at the threshold does very little, because it takes several steps to dry a shoe.

Can artificial grass be laid on a balcony over tiles?

Yes, and that is the most common installation we do. It lays straight over existing tiles or concrete with no demolition, drains through, and turns an unused balcony into usable space in a day. The things to check first are that the balcony drains properly and that water can still reach the outlet - grass over a blocked drain creates a damp problem rather than solving one.

What is the difference between a pigeon net and a child safety net?

They are completely different products. A pigeon or bird net is a light barrier to keep birds out and is not designed to take the weight of a person or a falling object. A child safety net is a load-bearing installation with much stronger twine, smaller mesh and rated fixings. A bird net must never be used for child safety, and the two should never be quoted interchangeably.

How is tarpaulin specified?

By GSM - grams per square metre - which is the best single indicator of how long it will last, and by whether it is UV stabilised. An untreated tarpaulin goes chalky and brittle in Indian sun within a season or two regardless of how heavy it felt when new. Compare quotes on GSM rather than price per sheet, because two tarpaulins of the same size can differ by half in weight.

Do you install, or only supply?

Both. Mats and tarpaulin are usually straight supply. Artificial grass and safety nets we install, because both depend on the fixing rather than the material - grass needs correct jointing and drainage, and netting needs anchors into sound structure with properly tensioned stainless hardware. For balcony netting on upper floors, installation is often the larger part of the cost.

Is there a minimum order?

No - a single balcony or one mat is fine. That said, cost per unit falls noticeably on larger jobs because the site visit and setup time is spread further, which is why societies often net a whole stack of balconies together rather than one flat at a time. If neighbours are considering the same work, ask us for a combined quote.
