Polycarbonate is the sheet you specify when something must not break. It takes hail, cricket balls and impact that would shatter glass or crack acrylic, flexing instead of failing, and it can be drilled close to an edge without cracking out. That toughness is why it dominates roofing, canopies and machine guarding. Two things decide whether a polycarbonate job lasts a decade or three years: choosing the right form, and installing the UV face outward.

Single dense sheet, near glass clarity, highest impact strength. Glazing, guards, security screens, curved features.

Multiwall / Twin-wall

Hollow channels between skins — light, insulating, spans further, translucent. The standard for roofing and canopies.

Install the UV face outward. Sheets carry a printed film marking the UV-protected side. Leave the film on through installation, then remove it. A sheet fitted upside down yellows and turns brittle within a few years instead of lasting a decade or more — and it will usually void the warranty. This is the single most common polycarbonate failure we are called to look at.

Installation Points That Matter

Slope it. A roof needs fall so water and dust run off. Flat installations pond, stain and stress the fixings.
Seal multiwall channel ends. Open channels collect dust, insects and condensation, which is what causes the grubby striped look on old polycarbonate roofs. Use breather tape at the bottom edge and sealing tape at the top, not plain tape on both.
Allow for thermal movement. Polycarbonate expands and contracts noticeably. Oversize the fixing holes and use proper washered fixings rather than driving screws tight.
Curve within the minimum radius. Every thickness has a limit; multiwall must be curved along its channels.
Never use incompatible sealants or cleaners. Some solvents and sealants attack polycarbonate and cause crazing. Check compatibility before use.

What Determines the Price of polycarbonate sheet

We do not publish a rate card for polycarbonate sheet, because a single per-sq-ft figure would be misleading — the same material can differ several-fold in price depending on the specification. These are the factors that actually move the number, so you can see where your own cost is going and where there is room to save:

Form — multiwall is markedly cheaper per sq ft than solid, which is why most roofing uses it
Thickness — the main driver within each form
UV protection — one-sided UV is standard; UV on both faces costs more and is only needed where both sides are exposed
Colour — clear and opal are usual; bronze, blue and green may carry a premium or a minimum quantity
Length & cutting — cut-to-length reduces wastage on a roof but odd lengths can leave unusable offcuts
Accessories — profiles, sealing and breather tapes, and washered fixings are a real line item — make sure a quote includes them

Getting an accurate figure quickly: send the material, thickness, finished sizes and quantity, and say what the sheet has to do. That is enough to quote firmly. What is the difference between solid and multiwall polycarbonate?

Solid is a single dense sheet with glass-like clarity and the highest impact strength. Multiwall has hollow channels between skins, making it much lighter, cheaper per sq ft, better insulating and able to span further — at the cost of clarity, since it is translucent rather than transparent. Most roofing and canopy work uses multiwall; glazing, guards and curved features usually use solid.

Which side of a polycarbonate sheet faces up?

The UV-protected face goes outward, toward the sun. Sheets carry a printed film marking the UV side — leave it on until installation is complete, then remove it. Fitting a sheet upside down is the most common and costliest polycarbonate mistake: it yellows and turns brittle in a few years instead of lasting a decade, and it usually voids the warranty.

Is polycarbonate stronger than acrylic and glass?

Yes, substantially — it can be drilled near an edge, takes hail and impact without shattering, and flexes rather than cracking, which is why it is used for machine guards and security glazing. The trade-offs are that it is softer than acrylic so scratches more readily, and it is not as optically pristine, so acrylic stays the better choice where finish matters more than toughness.

Can polycarbonate sheets be curved?

Yes — both solid and multiwall can be cold-curved on site, which is how barrel-vault canopies, walkway covers and curved carports are built without heating. Each thickness has a minimum bend radius, and multiwall must be curved along the direction of its channels. Tell us the radius and we will confirm thickness and form.

How much do polycarbonate sheet cost?

We quote per job rather than publishing a rate card, because the specification changes the price several-fold. The main drivers are material and grade, thickness, size and wastage, finish, and quantity. Send the material, thickness, finished sizes and quantity and we will quote firmly, usually the same working day. What is the minimum order quantity?

For stocked materials we can supply from a single cut piece upward, so there is no barrier to a small job. Non-stocked, imported or specially sourced grades usually carry a minimum set by the manufacturer, often a full sheet or a pack, plus a lead time. We will tell you the minimum and the lead time before you commit rather than after, and will say if a stocked alternative would do the same job sooner and cheaper.

Do you deliver to Noida, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Delhi?
