Bubble sheet works because each bubble is a sealed air pocket that absorbs a shock instead of passing it to the product. That makes it the right answer for breakage and the wrong answer for scratching — on a polished or painted surface, bubble pattern can emboss the finish. Two practical details decide how well it performs: which side you put against the product, and whether you have filled the voids.
Which Side Faces the Product?
Bubbles face inward, towards the item. That way the air pockets sit between the product and the outside world and can compress to absorb a knock, while the smooth outer film slides easily into the carton and takes the abrasion. Wrapped the other way round, the bubbles are on the outside where they get crushed against the box walls, and the flat film sits against your product doing very little. It is a small detail that changes how much protection you actually get from the same material.

Do not wrap polished or painted show surfaces in bubble alone. Under sustained pressure or in summer heat, the bubble pattern can emboss a high-gloss, painted or soft-lacquer finish — the item arrives unbroken but marked. Put foam sheet directly against the product and bubble on the outside. This applies to furniture panels, appliance fronts, polished metal and finished automotive parts.
Using It Properly
- Bubbles inward, smooth side out.
- Two layers on corners and edges — that is where impacts land.
- Fill the voids. A wrapped item that still rattles inside the carton will be damaged; a snug pack survives drops that a loose one does not.
- Do not over-wrap. Beyond a couple of layers you are paying for material and carton volume rather than protection — better to fill voids properly.
- Secure with tape, not by tucking. A wrap that unrolls in transit is no wrap at all.
- Store rolls out of direct heat and sun — bubbles lose air over time in a hot store.

What Determines the Price of Bubble Sheet
Quoted at current rates rather than a fixed list, as bubble film tracks polymer input costs. The drivers:
- Film thickness and micron — the biggest factor; a thin film loses air and deflates, which is why very cheap bubble arrives half-flat
- Layer construction — three-layer holds air better and costs more than two-layer
- Bubble diameter — small and large are priced differently for the same coverage
- Roll width and length — standard widths cost less than cut-to-width; long rolls are more economical per metre than counter rolls
- Quantity — the main lever, and repeat supply rates are materially below single-roll pricing
- Anti-static grade — a premium over standard, needed only where electronics require it
- Bags and pouches — converted items cost more per unit area than plain roll and carry minimum quantities
The false economy to avoid: very thin bubble film. It loses air in storage and in transit, so by the time the parcel arrives there is little cushioning left — and you pay for the damage rather than saving on the film. Micron is the specification to check, not just bubble size.

Why does cheap bubble wrap arrive flat?
Because the film is too thin to hold air. Check micron and layer construction rather than just bubble size - three-layer film holds air considerably better than two-layer.
How many layers of bubble wrap should I use?
Usually two around the item, with an extra layer on corners and edges where impacts actually land. Beyond that you are paying for material and carton volume rather than protection. What matters more than extra layers is filling the voids so the item cannot move inside the box - most transit damage comes from movement, not from insufficient wrapping.

Anti-static performance comes from the specific grade rather than the colour, since pink is a market convention and not a guarantee, so state the requirement when ordering.
